I am sure most of you would proudly say, “yes, I have intregrity and I honor my word, if I say I am going to do something I do it.” But do most of you REALLY?
I mean, I am sure you are great at honoring your word to others, even to the point of over extending yourself. But what about keeping the promises you make to yourself?
Ouch…let me share with you what God has been speaking to me about. You see, I’m like most of you, If I say I am going to do something for someone, I do my best to honor that. However, when it comes to keeping promises to myself, I have often fell short. I tell myself, “I am going to work out this Monday.” “I am going to start eating healthier this month.”
“I am going to write a book.” “I am going to…..”
You get the idea. What things have you told yourself you are going to do, but never followed through on?
The more you honor yourself, the more you understand how to give honor to others. The more committed you are to your own promises, the more consistency you will begin to create in your life. Not only is consistency a by product of honoring your own word, but you will start to have more confidence, and you will be able to make clear decisions without indecisiveness.
So, I encourage you today, to truly seek your own heart and if you struggle with being a promise keeper to yourself that you ask God to help you. He wants you to be a person of excellence in every area. Begin today, by evaluating the things you have said you would do, are they still a priority?
If so, then do your best to honor your word and start doing the things you told yourself you would do. Your destiny is counting on you finishing well.
